Unheralded Miguel Iglupas of Iligan City has just announced his entry into the national tennis scene after capturing the boys’ 18-under and 16-under titles in the recently concluded Philippine Columbian Association (PCA) Juniors National Tennis Championships at the PCA outdoor shell courts in Plaza Dilao, Paco, Manila. This, despite being unseeded entering the tournament.

Iglupas stunned top seed and 2022 PCA Open Juniors champion Mateo Rivas to win the boys’ 18-under category with a 6-1, 6-4 upset win. He earlier ousted No. 2 seed Ivan Charles Manila and No. 3 seed Cyril Bryan Paster in the semifinal.

Meanwhile, Iglupas also claimed the 16-under category after his opponent in the finals, No. 6 seed Kenzo Marcus Brodeth, retired due to back injury.

For his twin victories, Iglupas received the Most Valuable Player award of the tournament which is part of the Palawan Pawnshop-Palawan Express Pera Padala (PPS-PEPP) junior circuit organized by Palawan Pawnshop president and CEO Bobby Castro.
