Cagayan de Oro City 2nd District Rep. Rufus Rodriguez has filed a bill authorizing the construction of a sports complex in the city. Under House Bill No. 1458, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is authorized to construct a 10,000-person seating capacity sports complex including an air-conditioned gymnasium, a basketball court, and training centers for various sports.

Rep. Rufus initially filed HB 3362 for the same in 2010 and refiled it as HB 4064 in 2014, HB 7633 in 2018 and HB 427 in 2019. Said bills remained pending with the House Committee on Youth and Sports Development. Hopefully, HB 1458 will finally hurdle the commitee level this time. Read below.

The city only has the Don Gregorio Pelaez Sports Complex which was built in 1969 and hosted the first Palarong Pambansa outside Manila.

Keep posted.
