Good news for Iligan City! The City of Majestic Waterfalls will finally become the second city in Northern Mindanao to host an SM Supermall. This was confirmed by City Councilor Atty. Marlene Young following her meeting with Joey M. Tumolva, Regional Operations Manager, Mindanao 1, SM Supermalls and Emmanuel V. Bajan, Customer Relations Services Manager, SM CDO Downtown Premier.
Atty. Young who is the City Council Chairman of the Committee on Trade, Commerce and Industry posted photos of the visit as shown below.
Rumors of SM acquiring a lot in Iligan started circulating way back in 2010. Although there was no confirmation yet at that time, it was revealed in later years that the property being considered was the idle vacant lot along the highway in Barangay Tambo near the intersection to the City Bus Terminal. In fact, there were demolition works observed onsite even during the pandemic which further fueled speculations that the investment was realized. Aerial photos below courtesy of Rodulfo Dale. Still, we may have to hear the official confirmation from SM as to the exact location and the timetable of construction.
