Cagayan de Oro 2nd District Representative Rufus B. Rodriguez has filed several bills seeking to declare caves and waterfalls in the city as ecotourism sites. He recently discussed this with officials from the Department of Tourism (DOT), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) regional offices last Friday, August 5, at his Congressional Office at Brgy. Nazareth.
Accordingly, the DOT, DENR, and DPWH have agreed to create a joint committee to conduct ecological assessments on all locations. While development is the main goal, the emphasis will be on conserving the area and ensuring no excessive disturbance in the natural state of the caves and falls.
Macahambus Cave and Sinulom Falls are among the popular ecotourism sites in the city
