A GRAND THANKSGIVING
The brilliant colors of the Higaonon tribe filled the streets of Gingoog City in their celebration of the 43rd Kaliga Festival and their 63rd Charter Day! The Kaliga Festival is considered as Gingoog City’s ultimate celebration of culture and history as it breathes life to the old legends and rituals of the Higaonon people through dances, parades, and presentations which are shown to the whole town. A jumping giant frog, a proud Philippine Eagle with wings outreached, a playful monkey, and a tall tribal datu and his lady, are some of the characters that are depicted in the festival that are derived from the traditional kaliga ritual.
The Kaliga Festival Streetdancing and Tableau competition delivered phenomenal performances in Gingoog City last July 23! Indeed, a stunning close to one of the city’s most-beloved celebrations. Kaliga Festival is a must-see in Misamis Oriental, displaying the authentic, colorful culture of a city that is #GearedTowardsProgress.
