Did you know there was once a Spanish Watchtower in Laguindingan, Misamis Oriental which overlooks Macajalar Bay? Cagayan de Oro 2nd District Rep. Rufus Rodriguez recently visited its exact location and found its ruins beside the lighthouse at Punta Sulawan in Barangay Moog.

In his Facebook post, Rep. Rufus stated he will be coordinating with the Municipal Government of Laguindingan and Barangay Moog to clear the area of bushes and grass and was very hopeful for the development of said place as a historical site for the province open to guests with protection and conservation measures.

Accordingly, the ruins of the 4 walls of the Spanish watchtower are clearly visible albeit covered by bushes and grass; and a tree had engulfed the corner of one wall.

Rep. Rufus points to the location of the Spanish watchtower.

The Punta Sulawan lighthouse is a navigational landmark and the ruins are located right beside it.

Photo below shows Rep. Rufus with a portion of the ruins now almost covered with bushes and grass.

The ruins are also visible from Google Earth.

Here’s a much closer look. You can clearly see the ruins at right. Satellite image was probably taken when bushes and grasses were still small.
