Elements of the Police City Mobile Force Company (CMFC) and other police entities conducted an entrapment operation at around noon of June 4, 2022 at Capistrano Complex, Gusa, Cagayan de Oro City and arrested four suspects engaged in selling fake gold bars. They pose as alleged members of GANGHAAN LANDLESS ASSOCIATION (GALA) selling gold bars and operating in the eastern part of Misamis Oriental, Cagayan de Oro and Bukidnon.

City Director PCol Aaron M. Mandia in his report to Police Regional Office 10 Regional Director PBGen Benjamin C Acorda Jr, identified the arrested suspects as Rey Naranjo y Relova, 58 yrs old, married, of Sumpong, Indahag, Cagayan de Oro City; Junalie Licawan y Dalagsang, 58, married, from Ganghaan, Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental; Jerson Liquinan y Sasao, 28, single, of Mindagat, Malitbog, Bukidnon; and Jimwel Homonlay y Barijasion, 33, of Vista Villa, Sumilao, Bukidnon. Accordingly, this notorious group has contacts of gold bar suppliers from Sinuda, Kitaotao and Malaybalay City in Bukidnon.

PCol Mandia stated that the CMFC was acting on a complaint by a resident of Igpit, Opol, Misamis Oriental who sought police assistance after alleging that the suspects duped him of about Php500,000 in exchange for a gold bar which turned out to be fake after thorough examination sometime in April 2022. But just recently, the suspects again contacted him and offered Php 1,800,000 worth of gold bars. The victim pretended to grab the offer and knowing that the said transaction is a fraud, he sought assistance from the authority, hence thes entrapment operation.

Operating elements were able to seize and recover from the possession and control of the suspects the following items: entrapment money consisting of one (1) pc genuine Php 1000.00 bill and bundles of bogus and ordinary paper money, Two (2) pcs of alleged gold bars valued to more or less Php 15 million.

The suspects are now in police custody and facing charges of violation of PD 1689 (Syndicated Estafa).
