The Department of Transportation’s (DOTr) plans to activate a Crew Change Hub for cargo ships in the Port of Cagayan de Oro. This undertaking aims to ensure a safe and systematic crew changes of maritime movements in Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental, as well as to suppress the entry of new Omicron variants in the country and which has now affected South Africa.

The Cagayan de Oro City Council has also adopted a resolution in support of DOTr’s plan.

The plan is also in accordance with the Joint Circular No. 1 Series of 2020, dated 02 July 2020 with subject “Guidelines for the Establishment of the Philippine Green Lane to Facilitate the Speedy and Safe Travel of Seafarers, Including their Safe and Swift Disembarkation, and Crew Change During the COVID19 Pandemic”, and Resolution No. 53 of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IAT-EID) dated July 9, 2020.
