Guests and staff of an inn located along the National Highway in Cogon, Balingasag, Misamis Oriental were roused from sleep at around 4:00AM early Monday, May 23, 2022 after a cop who was reportedly drunk fired his handgun several times after he was allegedly refused sex by a woman who checked-in with him inside the inn.

Based on reports, Police Major Teodoro De Oro, Chief of the Balingasag Municipal Police Station identified the suspect as Police Corporal Xexris Espadilla who is currently assigned at the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company in Malagana, Claveria, Misamis Oriental.

Initial investigation revealed that Espadilla checked-in at the inn together with an unidentified female. Accordingly, he wanted to have sex with the woman whom he just met but she refused. When he tried to reach for his bag, the woman sensed he might get his gun so she hurriedly left the room. The suspect who was allegedly drunk went out of the room to look for the woman but couldn’t find her. Because of this, the suspect became upset and fired his gun several times resulting to property damages inside the inn.

Police recovered at least 11 empty shells at the scene.

A concerned citizen called for police assistance who immediately responded to the incident. According to the woman, she only accompanied the suspect at the inn so he can rest because he was already very drunk but apparently the suspect had bad intentions. Suspect was arrested by responding policemen and could face criminal and administrative charges and possibly dismissed from service.
