Former Corpus Christi star guard Joel Cagulangan scored 8 of the University of the Philippines’ final 10 points including the game-winning 3-pointer with 0.5 seconds left as the Fighting Maroons outlasted Ateneo, 72-69 in overtime in the UAAP Season 84 Finals Game 3 to win its first men’s basketball title since 1986.

A native of Butuan City, the 5-foot-9 Cagulangan was recruited by College of St. Benilde-La Salle Greenhills after leading Northern Mindanao to the gold medal in the Palarong Pambansa 2013.
