The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Region 10 (BFAR-10), thru its Provincial Fisheries Office of Misamis Oriental (PFO MisOr) recently dispersed a total of 30,000 milkfish (bangus) fingerlings in the municipalities of Manticao and Lugait, Misamis Oriental as part of its intervention to increase fisheries production in the region.

The Hugpong sa Baybayon Fisherfolk Association of Manticao and the Poblacion Fisherfolk Association in Lugait each received 15,000 bangus fingerlings stocked in their Norwegian Cages. Altogether, 52 fisherfolk benefited from the distribution with 18 in Manticao and 34 from Lugait.

In three to four months, each of the associations’ cages will be harvested and expected to yield a marketable-sized bangus in an accumulated average weight of 4,500 kilograms which would generate an income of approximately PhP756K if granted the usual 90% survival rate.

Other than the distribution of bangus fingerlings, PFO MisOr also concluded its training on ‘Bangus Culture in Cage’ to refresh, improve, and highlight salient parts of the said economic activity to respective fisherfolks.
