Bukidnon 4th District Rep. Rogelio Neil “Oneil” Roque has ended the reign of the Zubiris at the capitol after narrowly beating Bukidnon 3rd District Rep. Manuel Zubiri, a son of 3-term Gov. Jose Ma. R. Zubiri Jr with 98.85% of Election Returns (ER). Meanwhile, Oneil’s wife, Valencia City councilor Laarni Roque succeeded her husband in the province’s 4th District.
It will be the first time that there will be no Zubiri at the capitol since 2001. The elder Zubiri was governor from 2001-2010, vice governor from 2010-2013 and again governor from 2013 to present.
See latest figures below. With less than 2% of ERs left from Lantapan where Zubiri leads by at least 2,000 votes and Malaybalay City where Roque leads by more than 7,000 votes, it will be improbable for Zubiri to catch Roque’s lead of more than 4,500 votes.
Shown below are Roque and his wife Laarni and their supporters early today as they start to celebrate their impending victory.
By the way, 3-termer governor Zubiri has won his son’s seat in congress.
