The Cagayan de Oro City Historical and Cultural Commission (HISCCOM) wants the old Cagayan Waterworks Tank or “Water Tower” declared as a National Historical Structure by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP).

In a resolution, HISCCOM has requested the help of the City Council in its intentions with the NHCP in making the water tower a historical site with a historical marker installed.

It can be recalled that construction of the water tower started in 1919 and was completed in 1922. This was part of the waterworks project of then Cagayan de Misamis.

The City Council Commitee on Tourism chaired by Councilor Jay Roa Pascual will be calling a meeting to discuss HISCCOM’s request which was also endorsed by City Mayor Oscar Moreno.
