The Department of Tourism (DOT) recently launched THE COLORS OF MINDANAO, a new promotional campaign which highlights the region as a key destination offering diverse cultures and landscapes by creating a myriad of inter-regional and intra-regional travel circuits pooled together into unique color themes complementary to each tourism product: BLUE (Dive Tourism), TEAL (Sun & Beach), GREEN (Ecotourism), BROWN (Farm Tourism), VIOLET (Culture & Heritage), RED (Adventure and Sports Tourism), ORANGE (Food Tourism) and YELLOW (Faith Tourism).

Tourism Undersecretary Myra Paz Valderrosa-Abubakar led the momentous event held last May 2, 2022 at Chali Beach Resort and Conference Center in Cugman, Cagayan de Oro City and attended by all the Mindanao Regional Directors of the DOT namely, RD May Salvana-Unchuan, RD Tanya Rabat-Tan, RD Armin Hautea, RD Krisma Rodriguez and RD King Arina.

The campaign, which covers Mindanao’s five regions—Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, Davao and Soccsksargen (South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and General Santos—showcases new tourism products and destinations that Mindanao has to offer.

The Colors of Mindanao was initially given a mini preview at the recently concluded 21st World Travel and Tourism Council Global Summit in Manila when the lady regional directors from Mindanao stunned guests with their beautiful dresses made of Tausug Fabrics, beadwork from Bukidnon, Yakan Weaves, and other artisan handicraft from Mindanao.

While each province is known for its unique attributes this is the first time that the whole of Mindanao is united under one banner. This campaign is timely and significant as the Philippines has just opened its doors to international tourism since the pandemic.

Among tourism destinations identified are the agri-tourism circuit of Cagayan de Oro City to Bukidnon province; farm resorts in Buda, Davao City; pilgrimages between Misamis Oriental and Misamis Occidental; and dive sites in Camiguin. The campaign also highlights halal and Muslim-friendly tourism, one of the fastest-growing tourism sectors in the world.
