Did you lose a helmet? A notorious helmet thief was arrested by elements of Cagayan de Oro City Police Office Station 3 in Agora after a follow-up operation following a reported helmet theft along Valenzuela Road in Lapasan yesterday, March 9, 2022. Nine stolen helmets were recovered by police from the suspects’s boarding house after his arrest.

In an interview, PSMSgt Luisito Ugat Jr identified the suspect as Michael Rodriguez alias “Botchoy”, 42 years old, married, jobless and a resident of Imbornal, Camaman-an, Cagayan de Oro City who was just released from prison in November 2021.

According to police, on or about 1:30pm yesterday, March 9, 2022, a victim reported to Agora Police Station that he lost his helmet along Valenzuela Street. After receiving the report, police personnel of said station led by PSMSgt Luisito Ugat Jr proceeded to the scene of the theft incident and conducted an investigation. Trisikad drivers in the area told police the suspect could be “Botchoy.” After further investigation, police chanced upon the suspect who tried to escape but was caught and arrested. An 11-inch batangas knife was confiscated from his possession. When asked by police about the helmet, he told them he kept them in his boarding house in La Paz 1 Lapasan. There, police recovered 9 helmets as follows:

  • 1 EVO color black
  • 1 shift color black
  • 1 NHK color black
  • 1 LS2 color black
  • 1 RXR color black
  • 1 carting color black
  • 1 sniper color black
  • 1 KJC color black

Police are calling those who have lost their helmets to visit the police station.
