A group of alumni of Xavier University (XU) in Cagayan de Oro recently sought the help of the City Council to stop the sale of XU’s main campus. The Concerned Parents, Teachers, Alumni & Communities (COPTAC) led by former IBP-Misamis Oriental Chapter President Ed Cuaresma and retired NEDA-10 Regional Director Ro-Ann Bacal stated that the planned sale had no prior consultation with stakeholders and that the XU Corrales campus is a historical and heritage site.
It can be recalled that around 3.9 hectares of the Corrales campus is being planned to be sold to Cebu Landmasters Inc. (CLI) on the 5th year or when Phase 1 of the Masterson Campus would have been completed. CLI is proposing for a mixed-use development called “Xavier City.” Accordingly, the Immaculate Conception Chapel will be retained and the immediate vicinity will be converted into a park.
