The Bureau of Customs (BOC) in Cagayan de Oro recently foiled an attempt to smuggle some Php 8 million worth of cigarettes from China at the Mindanao Container Terminal (MCT) in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental last January 20, 2022. The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS-CDO) Field Station together with the Enforcement and Security Service (ESS-CDO) were acting on an intelligence report of possible smuggling attempts arriving at the said port.

In a press release, BOC stated that based on its inward manifest the shipment arrived from China last January 14, 2022 and consigned to UHE Trading and was declared as “used furniture”. However, during the physical examination conducted by customs officials together with the K-9 unit of PDEA-10, the shipment were found to contain cigarettes branded as “YS”. This was the second apprehension by the BOC at the said port for the year following a similar smuggling attempt last January 6, 2022.
