Did you know that on this day, January 10 in 1899, the Philippine flag was first hoisted at Casa Real in Cagayan de Misamis? It was during the celebration of the inauguration of the Philippine Republic signifying the Kagay-anons’ recognition of General Emilio Aguinaldo’s revolutionary government.
The celebration lasted for two days including a parade where one of the symbolic floats was “La Libertad de Filipinas.” On the float was Ms. Isidra Yamomo, who represented “Liberty” and two children: Conchita Fernandez carrying a crown of laurel representing “Victory”, and Pedro Velez representing “Defense”.
Also on that day, the first local Filipino officials formally assumed their duties with Jose Roa y Casas as the first Provincial President (Governor) of Misamis and Toribio Chaves as the first Municipal President (Mayor) of Cagayan de Misamis.
