Children and local barangay officials in Tangub City in Misamis Occidental recently found and rescued a young eagle with a wound on its ring wing believed to be shot from an airgun. In his Facebook post, Misamis Occidental Governor Philip Tan said the bird was turned over to the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office for further treatment. One netizen commented that the bird of prey is a juvenile Philippine Serpent Eagle.
Killing a Philippine eagle is punishable under Republic Act No. 9147, also known as the Wildlife Conservation and Protection Act by up to 12 years in prison and and fines of up to P1 million.
