Mr. Marvin M. Jumalon, 22, a 4th Year Bachelor in Agricultural Technology (BAT-4) student at USTP-Claveria in Misamis Oriental, bested six (6) other competitors nationwide by becoming the first ever NATIONAL GRAND WINNER of the highly competitive National Painting Contest sponsored by the Department of Agriculture, with the theme, “Paghahayupan, Kabuhayang May-ani at Kita Kahit Pandemya”.

Results were announced yesterday, October 4, 2021 via Zoom during the Opening Program, in celebration of the First Livestock and Poultry Month (October), the National Dairy Authority, in coordination with the National Livestock Program, all of the Department of Agriculture.

Mr. Jumalon’s entry (Entry #7) depicts his craftsmanship, encompassing the concept of the theme which best describes the importance of raising livestocks and poultry animals aside from growing crops, the connecting interrelationships of these components, which ultimately provide farmers for their livelihood and earn more incomes amidst this challenging global pandemic.

The second place winner was Mr. Aldren N. Quintana  (Entry # 6) of Gloria, Oriental Mindoro; while the third prize went to Mr. Christian Cadlaon (Entry #3) of Alaminos, Pangasinan.

The competition was earlier announced and posted nationwide in the FB Page of the National Livestock Program of the Department of Agriculture starting last month (September), with the contest guidelines to include the following 1) The Contest is open to Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao residents, 2.) The painting shall complement the theme, “Paghahayupan, Kabuhayang May Ani at Kita Kahit May Pandemya“, 3.) Artists are required to use a MINIMUM SIZE of a 12×16 box type canvas, 4.) Entries can be in portrait or landscape format, 5) any medium can be used except for digital, 6.) The National Livestock Program has the right to deny an entry if it is interpreted to be unjust, rude in any manner, or fails their standards for posting, and 7.) Artists are required to send a clear and well-cropped image of their entry at livestock@da.gov.ph. Edited photos are not allowed.

Judging criteria include the 20% for public support via FB likes and reactions, and the 80% for the technical criteria depicting their painting masterpiece.

All the three winners, aside from a certificate of awards, will receive cash prizes, as follows: 1st place – P5,000.00; 2nd place – P 3,000.00; 3rd place – P2,000.00; and for the non-winners as consolation prizes – P1,000.00 each.

Big congratulations, Marvin” as exclaimed in euphoria by no less than the newly appointed USTP-Claveria Chancellor, Dr. Renato O. Arazo, adding to the accolades that have overwhelmingly engulfed the social media especially from the USTP-Claveria community.

Marvin likewise expressed his heartfelt thanks to his mentor, family, friends, classmates, schoolmates, and the whole USTP-Claveria community for the all-out support especially in the public voting via Facebook likes, reacts and shares.
