A graduate of Central Mindanao University (CMU) in Maramag, Bukidnon recently made a fuss in social media not because of his educational attainment but due to his name. DENS LISTER M. MAHILUM has been a “Den’s Lister” since birth and he graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education major in Biology.
A native of Dinagat, Surigao del Norte, Dens Lister explained in Facebook how he got his name. Accordingly, his father is an achiever so he named his son as “Dens Lister” so that he may soon be an achiever.
During his elementary days, his teachers always encouraged him to try to excel in class because even his name suggests he is bright.
In high school, he felt the pressure because of his name so he joined quiz bees and extra-curricular activities. He finished 3rd Honorable Mention.
In college, he first enrolled at Mindanao State University (MSU) and during the initial classes where everyone would be introducing themselves, he said professors and instructors felt he was overbearing because classes have just started and he’s already a “Dean’s Lister”. He replied it was his real name.
He then transferred to CMU where he got an impression that he was bright (he was wearing glasses), strict and snobbish. He said he was actually shy but funny.
He said his name really added pressure and high expectations. He had so many struggles due mainly to his name but is glad that he has finally graduated. He is also proud to be a DOST Scholar in college.
He continues to be funny. He even plans to name his future child “Summa cum laude”.
He ended his post with a saying “Nganung mag study pa man, Dens Lister naman ko daan.”
He was recently featured at GMA Regional TV.
