The Philippine economy accelerated 11.8 percent during the second quarter of 2021, the highest Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth recorded since the fourth quarter of 1988 when it registered 12 percent. This was disclosed during this morning’s Press Briefing on the 2021 Second Quarter Performance of the Philippine Economy.
Undersecretary and National Statistician Dennis Mapa said this is a huge rebound from last year’s record -17 percent in the second quarter of 2020.
Meanwhile, Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Karl Kendrick Chua said the double-digit growth was achieved through better management of pandemic risks.
