Site development has started for the new Misamis Oriental Provincial Jail (MOPJ) in Barangay Apas, Initao, Misamis Oriental. Construction actually started last April 22, 2021 with site clearing works including opening of access road.
When completed, the new facility will be the home of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) curently at the old MOPJ at the Provincial Capitol Compound and will have well-equipped amenities and separate cells for men and women PDLs as well as for juvenile delinquents. It will also have a basketball court.
Part of the development is the establishment of a learning center where PDLs can learn and continue their studies while incarcerated. Meanwhile, local farmers in the area can also produce high value crops and vegetables which the Provincial Government will buy as additional food supply to the PDLs. Governor Yevgeny Emano is targeting to finish the project before his term ends. Keep posted.
