A boat, M/V Tower One (formerly M/V Racal) which was due for salvage operation sank at around 6:55am, today, April 3, 2021, some 200 meters off the coast of Jasaan, Misamis Oriental. The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is now conducting oil spill containment operations in the area.

Based on initial investigation conducted by Jasaan Municipal Police Station, the boat was already listing early today and finally capsized. Accordingly, the said vessel had been anchored at the site since 2016 and due for salvage operations at nearby Philippine Iron Construction and Machine Works (PICMW) prior to the incident.

Local barangay officials are contemplating to make the sunken boat as an artificial coral reef since retrieving it would be expensive.
