The Cagayan de Oro City Council has just passed the “Ordinance for the Prevention and Control of Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious and Zoonotic Animal and Avian Diseases in the City” which strenghtens further the city’s efforts against infectious animal diseases such as the African Swine Flue (ASF).

The said ordinance penalizes the transport of animals from areas with ASF, use of swill (pasaw) as feeds for animals, online selling of meat products without the necessary permits, evading animal quarantine checkpoints, failure to report mortality or sickness of animals, disobedience to persons in authority, among others.

Violators shall face a fine amounting to P2,000-P5,000 and imprisonment of not less than 6 months.
