The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) has stated that an estimated 2,500 kilograms of “malangsi” or small sardines washed ashore in Villanueva and Tagoloan last Sunday, February 21, 2021. This is based on information gathered by BFAR investigators.
As revealed during today’s press conference by BFAR, local villagers saw fishes jumping out of the water into the shore where they died. Accordingly, they were carried by strong currents. The fish size range from 1 to 3 inches. Yesterday, BFAR issued an advisory against harvesting, collecting, selling and eating of the fish found in the area.
