Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) and Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan were among six (6) universities in the Philippines which made it to the GreenMetric World University Rankings 2020 that measure the promotion of the reduction of carbon footprint towards developing environmentally-friendly universities.
The Greenmetric ranking system scores universities in the following areas: setting and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste, water, transportation, and education and research.
MSU-IIT ranked 3rd in the country, 249th in Asia and 548th in the world with 4800 points. https://www.msuiit.edu.ph/news/news-detail.php?id=1330
Meanwhile, XU ranked 5th in the country, 317th in Asia and 681st in the world with 4050 points.
The GreenMetric World University Ranking is initiated by Universitas Indonesia in 2010. The goal of this ranking system is to promote the reduction of carbon footprint and ultimately contribute to the mitigation of global climate change while recognizing universities who are exerting efforts towards this end.
Universities are ranked based on their scores in the following areas: setting and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste, water, transportation, and education and research. Results of the rankings were released on December 7, 2020, and the top-ranked universities were awarded in a virtual ceremony in Zoom and live-streamed over Youtube on the same day.
