Global furniture and home accessories retailer IKEA which is set to open its biggest and first store in the country at the SM Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City next year is still keen in putting up branches in key cities outside Metro Manila including Cagayan de Oro City.
CDO along with Cebu, Davao, Iloilo and Baguio were initially mentioned by Bloomberg TV Philippines way back in 2018 as key locations for IKEA. According to the latest article by Esquiremag.ph, IKEA is still finalizing the exact locations of the branches and among the factors considered include a very well-developed infrastructure, roads, public transport, electricity supply and a good logistics network. This is where Cagayan de Oro would fit in because the city is a major transshipment hub in the country. But due to the pandemic, IKEA’s expansion might take time. More details in the link below.
