Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III aired his frustration on the Cagayan de Oro Convention Center project which remains unfinished 20 years since it was started. During the Senate budget hearing, he asked Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar to get to the bottom of the real cause of the project delay.
Sen. Pimentel said the construction of the convention center, which was conceptualized in 1998 by his late father former Senate President Aquilino Pimentel Jr. and started in 2001, has not yet been completed until now despite regular funding from the DPWH. He also made a comparison to the pyramids in Egypt that were built in 18 years despite the absence of modern equipment as compared to the convention center project which remains unfinished despite avaiability of modern technology.
