Misamis Oriental Governor Yevgeny Vincente “Bambi” Emano is targeting to finish the new Misamis Oriental Provincial Jail (MOPJ) in the municipality of Initao before his term ends in 2022.
During the maiden broadcast of Lambo Misamis Oriental Radio Program over at Magnum Radyo yesterday, September 8, 2020, Governor Emano said the construction of the jail facility will be funded through a bank loan worth P1.5 billion which will also cover the purchase of new heavy equipment and vehicles to be distributed to various departments at the Capitol and used in delivering services to the constituents.
Gov. Emano noted the worsening situation of the current MOPJ located within the Capitol Compound which is marred by congestion where some 600 inmates are packed inside the 200-capacity facility.
The proposed facility is designed to accommodate 1,000 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) in two 5-storey buildings separating male and female PDLs. Each cell has a double-deck bed designed to hold only 2 inmates at a time. The complex will also have an Alternative Learning Center by the Technical Skills and Development Authority (TESDA) as well as a 1-hectare farm area for the PDLs.
