Last week, the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) turned over ten 20-kilo bags of Sorghum Seeds to Mayor Dennis Roa of Naawan, Misamis Oriental as part of its promotion of sorghum farming, a complimentary crop to the traditional corn.
The Sorghum Seeds good for 20 hectares were part of the donation of the Scott Seed Company of Hereford, Texas which arrived early this year.
Sorghum is a drought-resilient crop considered as the world’s 5th largest grain crop after rice, wheat, corn and barley. One can have three harvests in just one planting. Sorghum grains have a high protein content ideal for livestock, poultry and aqua feeds while its stalks are excellent silage materials.
