Many call them as drrrr or brrr…the vibrating sound when vehicles pass over them. But these are really called RUMBLE STRIPS, raised strips of pavement designed to alert drivers of potential hazards ahead.

In Cagayan de Oro, you can see them along Corrales Extension (photos below) near Shell Petroleum Depot and along Macapagal Drive (along bend approaching Calaanan Bridge). Rumble strips are also placed along the National Highway in Tagoloan near Phividec Industrial Estate.

They’re designed as a safety measure along the road to keep drivers awake after a long drive.
