The Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers (PSME) has warned that the proposed motorcycle barrier may contribute negatively to safety, health, economy and environment, a statement released Thursday, July 23, 2020 citing results of fluid dynamics study.

Read the official statement of PSME below.

Here’s a fluid dynamics illustration of the barrier. Note increased air turbulence behind the barrier courtesy of Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers (PSME) National President Jeffrey Singson. The rise in turbulence means increased chances of the virus to be circulated behind the barrier.

Here’s a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) Simulation done by MSU-IIT’s BSME Graduate, Frederick Irving Rico with Dr. Napoleon Enteria. The output is a comparative result with and without the barrier. It noted that the barrier shield will increase drag, decrease stability and increase fuel consumption.
