KAPA Community Ministry International Founder Joel Apolinario and 23 of his supporters were arrested by government authorities in a raid at an island resort at Sitio Dahican, Brgy Handamayan, Lingig, Surigao del Sur, Tuesday morning, July 21, 2020. Two of his bodyguards were also killed in a reported shootout against government operatives who were trying to serve arrest warrants against him.
Based on a report from Police Regional Office-13, the composite team which conducted the raid was composed of elements of RSOG-PRO 13; Surigao del Sur PPO; Lingig Municipal Police Station; 14th SAC, PNP-Special Action Force; 1st SDSPMFC, Regional Mobile Force Batallion 13; Regional Intelligence Unit 13 and Philippine Coastguard.
They were serving a warrant of arrest against Apolinario by virtue of an Syndicated Estafa with no bail issued by Hon. Gil G. Bollozos, Presiding Judge, 10th Judicial Region, RTC, Branch 21, Cagayan de Oro City and a search warrant in violation of RA 9516 and RA 10591 issued by Hon. Shineta Tare M. Palacio, Presiding Judge, 11th Judicial Region, RTC, Branch 41, Cantilan, Surigao del Sur.
Apolinario together with 23 of his supporters surrendered to authorities. They also yielded several high-powered firearms as follows:
- 30 units M16 rifle;
- 2 units M4 rifle;
- 1 unit Garand rifle;
- 3 units 60 caliber machine gun;
- 1 unit 50 caliber sniper rifle;
- 3 units caliber 22 rifle;
- 1 unit carbine;
- 1 unit shotgun;
- 2 units RPG;
- 5 units caliber 45 pistol;
- assorted ammunition
The islet is now being closely watched by authorities which was used by Apolinario as his hideout.
