A 34-year old male locally stranded individual (LSI) from Zone 1, Barra, Opol, Misamis Oriental died at the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) yesterday, July 11, 2020 just hours after arriving from Manila where he was stranded for 5 months in Plaridel, Bulacan where he worked as an engineer at a telecommunications firm.
In a statement released by the Opol Inter-Agency Task Force, the patient arrived at Laguindingan Airport at around 1:41pm, July 11, 2020 and was brought immediately to the Opol Isolation Unit. He initially tested negative via rapid testing. However, during assessment, he was noted to be weak and patient complained of chest pains. Patient revealed he had a heart problem since 2018 but has been inconsistently taking his maintenance medication the past 5 months. He was getting his medication in his bag when he lost consciousness and was having a seizure. He was rushed to NMMC where medical personnel performed cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on him.
