Last June 3, 2020, a rare Philippine Tarsier was found by two residents in Salay, Misamis Oriental and turned over to Salay Municipal Mayor Angelo Capistrano, Jr. It was released in the afternoon on the same day by MENR Officer, Mr. Greg Zulita together with the MAO Staff in the forest of Sitio Salahon in Barangay Alipuaton in Salay where it was found.
Accordingly, it was not the first time that the Tarsiers were spotted in some part of the forest in Sitio Salahon. Because of this, Mayor Capistrano is planning to propose that the forest in Sitio Salahon be considered a protected area so that the natural habitat of the Philippine Tarsier including other wildlife will be conserved.
