A team from Cagayan de Oro City’s Agricultural Productivity Office recently conducted a Fish and Coral Assessment at the Bayabas Marine Sanctuary in Barangay Bayabas and found a great improvement of the underwater environment in the marine protected area.
It was the first survey conducted since the prohibition of recreational activities along public beaches and nearby areas took effect with the community quarantine as a result of the pandemic.
As shown in photos courtesy of Elmor Del Puerto, the coral formations found in the area have improved. Their initial survey also revealed large fishes found among the corals which is a positive sign.
