At least ten (10) communist New People’s Army (NPA) rebels were killed in a running gun battle with government troops belonging to the Philippine Army’s 23rd Infantry Battalion that began early Sunday, May 10, in the hinterlands of Sitio Likudon, Barangay Kamanikan in Gingoog City which borders Las Nieves town in Agusan del Norte.
According to 23IB Commander Lt. Col. Francisco Molina, they already recovered the bodies of the slain rebels and brought to two funeral parlors in Gingoog City early Tuesday, May 12.
Lt. Col. Molina said the military operation was launched Sunday after residents reported the presence of around 70 armed men in the area who later turned to be NPA rebels under its Guerrilla Front 4A (GF-4A). However, upon reaching the area at around 4 a.m. on Sunday, the approaching troopers were fired upon by the armed men that resulted in a 10- to 15-minute firefight. Pursuit operations and sporadic skirmishes are still continuing at the moment. More details in the link below.
