The Department of Education (DepEd) is leaning towards August 4 as the new schedule for the opening of classes. This was disclosed by Education Secretary Leonor Briones amid ongoing nationwide consultations and surveys as to when the school year will start in 2020.

Secretary Briones added that based on Republic Act 7977, the opening of classes should be made between the first week of June and the last day of August. Saturday classes are also being planned. However, the decision would still be based on the assessment of the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseaases.
