The City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office (CLENRO) has successfully cleared the Cagayan de Oro River of the thousands of water hyacinths which have proliferated at the river in the past few months.
The clearing works started in January and still continuing progressing towards the Puntod-Kauswagan area.
Water hyacinths are free-floating and flowering invasive aquatic plants. Its rapid growth significantly affects the river’s hydrology creating a favorable environment for mosquitos which are carriers of diseases like dengue and malaria.
