The Department of Health in Northern Mindanao (DOH-10) is planning to convert its TB (tuberculosis) Reference Center inside the DOH compound in Carmen, Cagayan de Oro City into a coronavirus disease COVID-19 testing laboratory.
This was confirmed by DOH-10 Regional Director Dr. Adriano Suba-an, during a press conference by the Regional Inter-agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Disease (RIATF-EID) held today, March 27, 2020 at Pearlmont Hotel.
Accordingly, DOH-10 has already signified its plan citing that its TB Reference Center also has an RT-PCR (real time polymerase chain reaction) equipment that can actually be used for the testing. However, Dr. Suba-an clarified that it is still up to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) if the facility complies with the testing standard as well as other requirements for COVID-19 testing.
This also comes after Senator Christopher “Bong” Go urged the DOH to immediately establish testing centers in areas outside Luzon for the detection of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in their respective regions. Read below.
