At least 149 stranded tourists mostly foreigners were onboard a Cebu Pacific sweeper flight from Laguindingan Airport to Manila yesterday, March 25, 2020. Most of the passengers have already booked connecting flights out of the Philippines.
The sweeper flight was facilitated by the Department of Tourism (DOT) upon the request of Misamis Oriental Governor Yevgeny Emano. The Department of Tourism 10 (DOT-10) together with PNP-AVSEU 10, the Municipal Government of Laguindingan and Laguindingan Municipal Health Office successfully arranged the sweeper flight with clearance from the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines – Laguindingan Airport (CAAP-10).
It can be recalled that the airport was ordered closed by the municipal government of Laguindingan as precaution against the spread of COVID-19.
Airport employees and stakeholders were in full force to assist the stranded passengers.
All airlines have cancelled operations with flights scheduled to resume by mid-April.
