The 58th Infantry (Dimalulupig) Battalion yesterday, March 23, 2020, celebrated the commemoration of the 123rd Philippine Army Founding Anniversary at Sitio Kamansi, Barangay Banglay, Lagonglong, Misamis Oriental, a former stronghold of the communist New People’s Army (NPA).
The said flag raising was participated by the 58IB troopers led by Lt Col Ricky L Canatoy, the Commanding Officer of 58IB.
The flag raising ceremony was conducted simultaneously at the 58th IB Headquarters in Claveria, Misamis Oriental, with the theme “123rd Years of Gallantry and Dedication in Serving the People and Securing the Land.”
The residents who were mostly members of the indigenous people were thankful that they have finally saw the light and future on their ancestral domain. They have come to realize that with their concerted effort of unity will accomplished development and peace in their area.
Moreover, the flag raising also represents the liberation of Sitio Kamansi from the hands of NPA members who were terrorizing them which prompted them to evacuate and leave everything they have.
On the other hand, Lt. Col. Ricky L Canatoy said in his message, “I am thankful for the families who stayed here at Sitio Kamansi. Your stay here shows that there is still hope for us to restore your community. Always remember that the Philippine Army, the 58IB together with all the government agencies are always here to support and help you with all the assistance we can give. Let us cooperate and we can bring back the peace and harmony of your beloved place. For the rest of the community who evacuated, we encourage you to return home and enjoy the liberation of Sitio Kamansi.”
