Is your vehicle registration due for renewal? Do it at least a month or two before the expiry date as queuing in accredited emission testing centers are now much longer after permits of several Private Emission Testing Centers (PETC) nationwide were revoked due to falsification of test results submitted to the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
As shown below, vehicle owners start lining up even before sunrise at an accredited PETC in Cagayan de Oro City hoping their vehicles would be tested with results for compliance to the Clean Air Act of 1999. Because the PETC can only limit a certain number of tests per day, many are re-scheduled at a later date sometimes beyond their registration due date. Emission test result is a basic requirement in the renewal of vehicle registration. Because of the delay, some had to pay penalties for late renewals. So, if you’re plate number ends in 3 or 4 or even higher, have your vehicle tested now…unless the situation has been remedied.
It can be recalled that suspension or cancellation of permits of various PETCs started last year after many test results were found to be edited in Photoshop to make it appear it passed the emission test.
Here’s the press release from the Land Transportation Office (LTO-10).
