Taal Volcano one of the iconic scenic volcanoes in the Philippines has erupted today, January 12, 2020 with an eruption plume 1-kilometer high.
According to PHIVOLCS, the eruption was accompanied by volcanic tremor felt in Volcano Island and barangays of Agoncillo, Batangas. Ashfall is currently being showered on the southwest sector of Taal.
PHIVOLCS has also raised the alert status from Alert Level 2 to Alert Level 3 which means there is magmatic intrusion that is likely driving the current activity. PHIVOLCS has strongly recommended evacuation of Taal Volcano Island and high-risk barangays of Agoncillo and Laurel, Batangas due to the possible hazards of pyroclastic density currents and volcanic tsunami.
