Now on its 7th year, the Kuyamis Festival in Misamis Oriental has slowly created its own identity distinct from other festivals in the region. The street dancing portion is one of the highlights of the week-long festival where participants from different municipalities dress in colorful uniquely designed coconut-themed outfits dancing to a story line depicting the province’s earlier settlers and kuyamis, a variety of sweet coconut once abundant in the region.
