The City Social Welfare and Development – Oro Response and Processing Center in Cagayan de Oro has started its month-long intensive monitoring of major streets in the city in its “Magbigay sa Tamang Paraan, Huwag sa Daan” advocacy which discourages giving of alms on streets.

The advocacy campaign will be from conducted from 8:00am to 5:00pm and will last until December 21. The implementation was specifically set during the holidays when Badjaos usually start arriving in the city to beg as observed in previous years.

Among the places being monitored are Gusa Highway, SM Downtown, Gaisano Caltex, 7/11 Velez, Magsaysay Park and Savemore Kauswagan. Active participation among barangays and police is highly encouraged. Beggars carrying babies will be reported to be rescued.

The move is also pursuant to PD 1563 or the Anti-Mendicancy Law and Section 492 of the City Codified Ordinance.
