The famed tree-lined Alae-Damilag-Camp Philips Road in Damilag, Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon could become just a thing of the past if the planned road widening by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will push thru.

Travelers have always marveled at the sight of these large trees lined up along this road going to Camp Philips. Early morning joggers feel at home with nature with their presence. These also provide shade for farmers and plantation workers for several decades.

But local residents were stunned with the news that these trees are in danger of being cut. “X” markings on the trees have also been made indicating these will be affected.

A signature campaign against the plan has been started.

An online petition has also been put up at Change.org.

Some netizens offered a solution to save the trees citing this similar situation in Biliran province where the trees were instead used as island. However, this means the DPWH will also have to acquire some property for the ‘other’ road. Photos by Biliran Island.
