The Provincial Government of Misamis Oriental is facing a complaint for singing the National Anthem or Lupang Hinirang in Bisaya.
Based on a report from GMA News, a group has filed a complaint at the National Historical Commission of the Phils. (NHCP) regarding the matter.
It was revealed that the singing of Lupang Hinirang in Cebuano or Bisaya during the flag-raising ceremony at the Provincial Capitol has been going on for several years already.
According to Section 20 of Republic Act No. 8491 otherwise known as the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines states that “The observance of the flag ceremony in official or civic gatherings shall be simple and dignified and shall include the playing or singing of the anthem in its original Filipino lyrics and march tempo.”
One can translate Lupang Hinirang in their own dialect for better understanding but the singing should be in the original Filipino lyrics.
