The Philippines’ Eljay Pamisa from Cagayan de Oro bowed to Vishwanath Suresh of India via a close 2-3 decision to settle for the silver medal in the just concluded 2019 Asian Junior Boxing Championships in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates.

Fighting at the men’s pinweight (46kg) and assured of a bronze medal, Pamisa barged into the gold medal match after beating Thailand’s Thanakom Aonyaem, 5-0, in the semifinals. Despite losing in the final round, Pamisa showed promise as the country’s bet in the future with a podium finish in his first international tournament.
